Vipassana is a non-sectarian, universal scientific technique of meditation through self-observation. Since its introduction to the Central Jail of Jaipur and Tihar Jail in India during the 1970s and 1990s, the technique has been introduced into correctional facilities worldwide.
Documentary films such as Doing Time, Doing Vipassana (India) and The Dhamma Brothers (United States) document the profound impact of 10-day courses on incarcerated men and women, demonstrating significant decreases in disciplinary infractions and long-term recidivism.
All courses are financed solely through voluntary donations from individuals who have completed at least one course and wish to give others the same opportunity. No fees are ever charged to the institutions or participants.
